Programs
- FAIR Plan to offer new discounts for homeowners taking steps to protect against wildfire (Application Form)
- Please review the new Fair Plan discount. This can be added as of today. If you feel that you qualify, contact your agent to process ASAP. Everything helps! Please note you can qualify for one tier without needing to qualify for the other.
- When applied, these discounts will reduce the wildfire portion of the policy’s premium by 10% and 5%, respectively. These discounts can be obtained separately or together; policyholders do not need to qualify for one discount to qualify for the other. If a policyholder is eligible for both discounts, the total discount will be approximately 14.5% because the second discount is applied to the wildfire premium after the first discount is applied.

Burn Permits
May 2, 2023, Camino, Ca. — Yesterday CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit announced that effective Monday, May 1, residential burn permits will be required. Residents can still burn as long as they obtain a residential burn permit. Permits are free and allow for the burning of dry landscape vegetation (not household trash) that originates from the landowner’s property. Burning is only allowed under the conditions presented on the permit and on days determined to be a burn day by El Dorado County Air Pollution Control District. Permits are valid May 1 thru April 30 — so if you haven’t applied for a new one since yesterday, you will need to apply for a new permit if you need to burn. Additional information on all types of permissible burning can be found at eldoradocountyfire.com/burn-permits.
To obtain a residential burn permit, simply:
- Go online to be https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/
- Click on “Apply for a Burn Permit”.
- Select “Residential Burn Permit”.
- Read the information and watch a short video.
- Submit your application.
- Retrieve your permit from your email.
Before Burning, check to see if it is a burn day
- Online at El Dorado County Air Quality Management District, AQMD Facebook, or AQMD Twitter,
- Or by telephone: Western El Dorado County (530) 621-5897 or (866) 621-5897.
When Burning
- Have your Residential Burn Permit accessible to you. Print the permit or save a copy to an electronic device that you can keep with you.
- Always stay in attendance of your burn pile.
- Apply water to the ashes and stir when you are done burning. Many fires have started because of hot embers being kicked up by wind even after burn piles are “out”.
