Survey of Stakeholder Perceptions of Wildfire Mitigations for Homes in California and Oregon

August 12, 2024

The Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) — the research affiliate of NFPA® — commissioned a comprehensive survey of residents, fire departments, and local governments in California and Oregon with the goal of better understanding these audiences’ perceptions of the wildfire problem and engagement in addressing those threats.

The final report, “Stakeholder Perceptions of Wildfire Mitigation for Homes: Multi-Audience Survey Research,” which was publicly released last week, shows that:
• Residents overwhelmingly understand their wildfire risks, but few people are taking all the steps needed to mitigate them, and most aren’t doing the work as often as they should; and
• Despite all the funding and support available from government and private organizations, most residents aren’t getting the message about these resources.

Read the report to learn where residents get stuck when it comes to wildfire mitigation, and how to connect them with needed information, resources, grants, and other funding to help motivate them to action.
